Who we are
This website is operated by Darwin’s Tavern, 80 Aungier Street, Dublin 2, D02 E286, Ireland.
We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions about it, contact us at info@darwins.ie or (01) 475 7511.
What we collect
When you make an enquiry or booking request — through this website or through a form on Facebook or Instagram — we collect your name, email address, phone number, the size of your party, your preferred date, and anything you tell us in the message field.
When you sign up for our mailing list, we collect your name and email address.
When you book a table, your reservation is handled by OpenTable, who collect your details under their own privacy policy.
When you visit the website, we automatically collect technical information including your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you view and how you arrived. This happens through cookies, and only where you have consented.
When you contact us by phone or email, we keep a record of that correspondence.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To respond to your enquiry and arrange your booking — because you asked us to, and to take steps towards a booking at your request.
- To contact you about an enquiry you made — our legitimate interest in replying to people who get in touch.
- To send you news and offers — only with your consent, given by ticking the box.
- To measure how the website performs — with your consent, through cookies.
- To measure how our advertising performs — with your consent, through cookies.
- To keep accounting and legal records — because we are legally required to.
You can withdraw consent at any time. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can change your cookie choices through the cookie settings on this site.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies to make the site work, to understand how it is used, and to measure our advertising. Non-essential cookies are only set after you accept them.
We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how people use the site, and the Meta Pixel to measure and target our advertising on Facebook and Instagram. These tools may set cookies and share information with Google and Meta respectively.
Our cookie policy explains the individual cookies in more detail, and you can change your preferences at any time through the cookie settings link on this site.
Advertising on Facebook and Instagram
We advertise on Meta platforms. If you submit an enquiry form within Facebook or Instagram, Meta shares the details you provided with us so that we can respond to you.
Where you have consented to advertising cookies, we may use the Meta Pixel to show ads to people who have visited our website, and to reach people with similar interests. We do not share your name, email address or phone number with Meta for advertising purposes.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the organisations that help us run the business:
- OpenTable — reservations
- Google — website analytics, and the spreadsheet where we manage enquiries
- Meta — advertising measurement and lead forms
- Our website host and email provider — to operate the site and send you replies
We also share information where we are legally required to. We never sell your personal information.
Transfers outside the EEA
Some of the providers above are based in the United States. Where information is transferred outside the European Economic Area, it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that did not become bookings — 24 months
- Booking records — 6 years, for accounting purposes
- Mailing list — until you unsubscribe
- Website analytics — up to 14 months
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- have inaccurate information corrected
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to restrict how we use it
- object to us using it, including for direct marketing
- receive your information in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time
To exercise any of these, email info@darwins.ie. We will respond within one month, and there is no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first and we will do our best to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, the Irish supervisory authority for data protection. Their contact details are at dataprotection.ie.
